What should I do if my garbage disposal is leaking from the bottom?

Turn the disposal off and stop using it. A leak from the bottom usually means the internal seal or housing has failed, which often requires replacement rather than repair. Summers’ licensed plumbers can install a new disposal and check for drain issues the same day.

Quick checks:

  • Cut power at the switch and breaker.
  • Place a bowl under the unit and dry everything.
  • Look for leaks at the sink flange and discharge tube; if dry there but dripping from the motor housing, plan on replacement.
